Today we decided that writing a blog about my journey of my injury/recovery would be incredibly healing, so here we are!
On 12/26/2022, I fell off my horse. I fell on my left hell with my full body weight. I heard the crack and instantly knew I was screwed. I sat up, looked at my foot and I initially thought it was a compound fracture because my boot was so big. I knew Jolie and her husband Nick were at the upper barn and I began screaming. It took a few minutes for them to realize it was me and they ran down. Arby stood next to me, rubbing his nose on my head until they got there. Nick checked me out and decided I didn't need an ambulance. Jolie grabbed the truck and Nick (my hero) carried me to the truck.
Once in the truck we decided on which hospital to go to. Here we go. Let's get to the ER. I was in shock. No real pain, but slowly as we got closer, the shock started wearing off. Jolie started doing anything she could to keep me from passing out from pain. We listened to different music and made jokes.
Once at the ER they got me in ASAP and put an IV in. The nurse said pain meds are on their way. Saw the doctor who ordered morphine and an X-ray. We got the pictures taken and an hour later more pain meds but this time the goods: dilaudid. 2 more nurses came in to put a splint on me. I was high as a kite and cracking jokes the whole time. They soon discharged me, but not after telling me I shattered my heel. They gave me crutches and a pain med script.
Jolie gave me a ride home and my mom came over. I had posted on Facebook that I shattered my heel and I was getting no, "I hope you feel betters".... it was all jokes about me needing bubble wrap. That hurt me. I was devastated with what happened. Jokes were not what I needed. I broke down in tears. Luckily, after I made a post about me not being ready for jokes, people deleted their comments and/or texted me apologizing.
I am able to do 3 things on my own: brush my teeth, go to the bathroom, and do my skincare routine. I need someone here at all times. Luckily I have had multiple people come forward and have been helping babysit me... And I couldn't be more grateful.
So, going forward, this is way I'm going to give people updates on my recovery and my healing journey.
